Otago Highlanders outside back Connor Garden-Bachop died on Monday at the age of 25, following a medical event, in Christchurch on June 17, however, it did not specify the cause of death.

Garden-Bachop, who made his Highlanders debut in 2021, was on the team’s roster this season but parted ways with the Super Rugby Pacific club after their latest campaign finished in the quarter-finals

He represented the Māori All Blacks in two Tests against Ireland in 2022.

He thanked the Highlanders on social media last week for an “unforgettable five years.”

New Zealand Rugby and the Highlanders paid tribute to Garden-Bachop on Tuesday in a joint statement with the New Zealand Māori Rugby board and the country’s players’ association.

Garden-Bachop, who represented the Māori All Blacks in two Tests against Ireland in 2022, was born into a family of rugby internationals.

Rumours are spreading online that he suffered from a sudden brain aneurysm related to repeated blows to the head.

These types of violent sports have a greater risk of brain injuries due to blows and sometimes "unexplained" sudden deaths.

Rugby is one of the most risky, perhaps surpassed by boxing.
How many cases of boxers have been found dead a day or two after a fight? If I remember correctly I have published some here...

At least this guy enjoyed doing what he liked most (and he left a beautiful corpse ;) )

Good points over the years I have myself posted quite a few such cases of boxers and rugby players.

I also love young football players dropping dead and going for autopsy fresh and in excellent condition.
