In a very interesting article from today the New York Times discusses the effect of continuing aftershocks on the Japaneese populaiton after the March 11 earthquake and the threat for another big earthquake in Tokyo area.

According to the same article data from Japan Coast Guard monitoring instrument on the floor of the Pacific Ocean shows that the ocean floor near the epicenter moved 24 meters during the erathquake, or about 79 feet, eastward.

The city of Sendai, whose airport was inundated by the tsunami, moved about 13 feet, according to Shinji Toda, a professor at Kyoto University.
