Haiti is the Western Hemisphere's version of hell on earth. When you fly over it from the Dominican Republic, it looks like Planet of the Apes (remember Cornelius and Zira?). It is almost completely defoliated because people cut trees down to make charcoal to cook with. It is the legacy of Papa Doc and Baby Doc.
