Zaliukas had been quietly battling an unnamed condition, according to website 15min, and his wife announced on Saturday that the defender has passed away on Halloween just 11 days shy of his 37th birthday.
The ex-Jambos centre half, who also played for Leeds United, had a successful career in Scotland, which started back in 2006 when he joined the Jam Tarts on loan from FBK Kaunas.
He played more than 150 games for the Edinburgh side between 2007 and 2013, captaining the club to Scottish Cup success in 2012.
After his permanent stay in Edinburgh, be moved to Yorkshire to play with Leeds.
