Fatal anal impalement

Anal impalements are infrequent injuries and are rarely fatal.

A 63-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department after gardening accident. He presented a trans-anal impalement by a metallic rod and a complex wound in the left-side thoracic wall. On arrival, consciousness was preserved despite the low blood pressure but the patient died from a severe hemorrhagic shock minutes later.
