A London-bound Air India Plane carrying 242 people crashes shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, Western India

Air India says 241 people on board the plane were killed - one passenger, a British national, survived and is receiving treatment in hospital.

There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian on the flight.

The gear is down and flaps retracted, which is a configuration that is inappropriate for departure. One theory is the captain ordered "gear up", and the co-pilot, or "pilot monitoring" retracted flaps instead. There is, however another anomaly. The RAT is deployed. This is an automatic propeller driven generator that only deploys with complete engine or electrical failure.
