It appears some people are trying to kill themselves in an unnecessarily drawn out manner with maximum pain rather than as swiftly and with as little awareness of the process of dying as in a Stockton Rush-designed submarine.

Nope, I disagree. Severe high speed blunt force trauma to the head to the extent that it instantly smashes the brain into pieces is likely to be one of the least painful and quickest forms of death, similar to visiting the Titanic in a submarine built by Stockton Rush. However, many people don't do it that way, they get cut in half and beaten up by the train or just decapitated (which appears to give multiple seconds of further awareness) rather than having the wheels smash their head against the rail in an instant.
