Two passengers were pinned to their seats at the front of the upper deck of a bus for two hours today after the vehicle crashed into a tree in South London.
Emergency services freed the pair just after 1pm today. The collision – on Kennington Road – took place just before 11am when the bus is said to have swerved to avoid another vehicle.
Firefighters had to cut free the two passengers – who suffered ‘serious leg injuries’ – before they were taken off the battered number 59 bus, which was travelling to King’s Cross via Waterloo and had around 30 passengers on board, on stretchers.
The front of the double-decker was completely crushed and the floor inside caved in
No one was killed in the accident
Two people were taken to hospital and are critical
Four fire engines were on the scene from Soho, Westminster, and Lambeth fire stations
