Russia's coldest republic has been fighting the raging fires since early May the smoke plume is so extensive it is currently spreading as far as the North Pole and into Canada.
Residents of Yakutsk have been advised to stay indoors after dozens of people became unwell from the smoke and some were even taken to hospital. Air pollution levels in the city are off the charts.
