The tsunami waves in the Sendai airport area reached a height of 12 metres among the highest number measured on the entire coast of Japan after the 9.1 undersea megathrust earthquake. The shaking was so violent everyone was knocked down and in Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai close to the epicentre people were thrown off the ground and it was impossible to move at will.
