James Cameron, seen here in 2018, is hoping to end a 'Titanic'-sized debate.

Ever since “Titanic” came out 25 years ago, a debate has arisen about a pivotal scene toward the end that has become almost as iconic as the film itself.

Now, director James Cameron is hoping to put a definitive end to the speculation that Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) could havesurvived after the sinking of the infamous oceanliner, if only his beloved Rose (Kate Winslet) had scooched over just a bit on the floating door that kept her out of the freezing waters that eventually claimed so many lives. (It’s a conundrum that has drawn commentary from Hollywood luminaries such as Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, as well as Winslet herself in the past).

Cameron said he conducted a “forensic” study to show that the door could not possibly have supported them both.

“We have done a scientific study to put this whole thing to rest and drive a stake through its heart once and for all,” Cameron told The Toronto Sun on Friday.

“We have since done a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the raft from the movie,” he continued, adding that they used “two stunt people who were the same body mass of Kate and Leo and we put sensors all over them and inside them and we put them in ice water and we tested to see whether they could have survived through a variety of methods and the answer was, there was no way they both could have survived.”

“Only one could survive,” Cameron said.

The study will be the subject of a special for National Geographic, timed to the 25th anniversary re-release of “Titanic” in 4K, according to Cameron. Though, the network has yet to reveal specifics.

CNN has reached out to National Geographic for comment.

Cameron, who previously commented on an episode of “Mythbusters” that explored whether Jack had to die, ultimately copped it all to an artistic decision.

“No, he needed to die,” Cameron said in the new interview. “It’s like Romeo and Juliet. It’s a movie about love and sacrifice and mortality. The love is measured by the sacrifice.”

The “Avatar: Way of Water” filmmaker added that his hope with the new special on “Titanic” and Jack’s death scene is that “maybe… maybe… after 25 years, I won’t have to deal with this anymore.”

★ Oscar Nominations 2023 ★

Good evening. Just a few hours ago the strange and sentimental film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” led among the films nominated for the 95th Academy Awards scoring 11 nominations. “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” followed with nine nominations each.

Blockbusters “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” each landed nominations for best film, and there is plenty of star power among the nominees. Both Rihanna and Lady Gaga were nominated in the original song category (for tunes from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” respectively), as veterans in the industry were recognized as well.

David Letterman Calls Out Tom Cruise for Skipping the Oscars

David Letterman visited “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night and had a burning question for the host, who recently earned great reviews for his stint hosting the 2023 Oscars. “Here’s something that’s a little sensitive: Tom Cruise,” Letterman said. “Where was Tom Cruise?”

Despite “Top Gun: Maverick” earning six Academy Award nominations and Cruise being a nominee for best picture as one of the film’s producers, the A-list star skipped the 2023 ceremony. Reports surfaced ahead of the show that Cruise was too busy shooting the “Mission: Impossible” sequel in Italy to attend, but the actor popped up in London two days after the Oscars to attend Michael Caine’s 90th birthday party. Cruise also showed up at the Oscars Nominees Luncheon in February.

The big screen is going back long, long ago, to a galaxy far, far away, as three new Star Wars films have been announced by Lucasfilm.

The three movies will take place at different stages of the Star Wars timeline.

A fucking great film, indeed

:5 stars:

Ridley Scott dispenses with the symbolic weight attached to previous biopics in favour of a spectacle with a great star at its centre.

Indeed I would agree it is pointless acting as Hopkins as played one of the best cannibals in the world Ol' Hannibal Lector

Alien: Romulus: first trailer for Ridley Scott-approved franchise restarter

The first trailer for franchise relaunch Alien: Romulus promises a return to the roots of the iconic sci-fi horror series.

The film comes from the director of Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead, Fede Álvarez, yet has retained the director of the original, Ridley Scott, as producer and the Aliens director, James Cameron, as unofficial consultant.

Originally intended to go straight to Hulu, in the footsteps of the Predator prequel, Prey, Alien: Romulus is now heading to cinemas this summer with Priscilla’s Cailee Spaeny leading a cast of young actors.

The timeline places it between Alien and Aliens and follows a group of young space colonisers as they go scavenging on a derelict space station. “I wanted to travel back not just to the style of the original movies, but to the genre of the original movies,” Álvarez said to Variety. “I really wanted to go back to the sheer horror of the first film, and to take those elements of thriller that Aliens has, and Alien 3 has as well. We went to crazy extents to keep it pure to the film-making techniques of the first movie.”

Fallout (American TV series)

Fallout is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner for Amazon Prime Video. It is based on the role-playing video game franchise created by Interplay Entertainment and now owned by Bethesda Softworks.

The show depicts the aftermath of an apocalyptic nuclear exchange in an alternate history of Earth where advances in nuclear technology after WWII led to the emergence of a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent resource war. The survivors took refuge in fallout bunkers known as Vaults, built to preserve humanity in the event of nuclear annihilation. 219 years later, a young woman leaves a vault, the only life she has ever known, to venture out into the dangerously brutal, hostile, savage and unforgiving Wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles in the post apocalyptic United States.

I don't know how it will turn out, but I know that if they don't do it right it can be a total disaster.

I can only talk about the last two numbered Fallouts, and they are games that you can play for hundreds of hours, and there would still be something left to do. You can even almost ignore the main story
It is an open world and you can practically go to any point on the map, almost from the beginning and whenever you want, since the difficulty adapts to your level.
The good thing is that they have tons of secondary stories and I'm sure the series will be full of nods to this ones.

But I don't know to what extent the Fallout story can hook the general public.
I think it doesn't have the plot quality that The Last of Us can have. But hey, we'll see what happens. If they do it right, there could be a series for years

Interesting points.

Looks promising from the trailer but as you said we will wait and see if it lives up to the hype because frankly in last couple of years lots of movies and TV series didn't and were disappointments and waste of time.

Yes.

Matrix 5 in the Works With Drew Goddard as Director

Warner Bros. is going back to the Matrix.

The studio announced that a fifth “Matrix” movie is in development. It’ll be the first installment without Lana or Lily Wachowski as directors. Instead, “The Martian” screenwriter Drew Goddard will handle filmmaking duties. He will also write the script and produce with his partner at Goddard Textiles, Sarah Esberg. Lana Wachowski, who helmed the most recent “Matrix” installment, 2021’s “Resurrections,” is attached as an executive producer.

Game of Thrones' Jon Snow Spinoff Cancelled by HBO

The Jon Snow spinoff of Game of Thrones is no longer in active development at HBO. Though the main series ended in 2019, the fantasy franchise is continuing with multiple prequel series based on the works of George R.R. Martin, including House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. It was first reported in 2022 that a Jon Snow spinoff series, which would act as a sequel to Game of Thrones following Kit Harington's character, was in development.

Now, during an exclusive interview with Screen Rant promoting Blood for Dust, Harington confirmed that the Jon Snow spinoff series is no longer in development. The actor says the project was previously in the developmental stage, but "currently, it's not" and "it's off the table" because they "couldn't find the right story to tell." Though it's no longer in active development, Harington hopes they can revisit the project sometime in the future. Read his full comments below:

I hadn't really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn't want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn't want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it's worth it.

And currently, it's not. Currently, it's off the table, because we all couldn't find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It's firmly on the shelf.

Thanks for update.

I recommend "Black Sails", the bloodiest most realistic pirate movie ever made now on Netflix.

Produced in South Africa about pirates and rebelion. The best sword fights of any recent movie.
