Latvian football international Gints Freimanis has died aged just 38.

After a long struggle with a serious illness, the former defender of the Latvian team has passed away, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) announced on Tuesday.
Freimanis was described as an unyielding fighter on the field, who never took a step backward and always gave his all. Freimanis was a hard worker with high life principles and created a positive feeling wherever he went, the LFF said. His colleague Ainārs Tamisārs called Freimani the soul of Jelgava and Latvian football.
Freimanis played his first match for the Latvian national team in May 2014 in the Baltic Cup at the age of 29. Over four years he played in 13 games in the national team shirt, scoring in August 2017 against Hungary.
Freimanis started playing football in the Brocēni team, following in the footsteps of his father. During his career, Gints played for a number of Latvian clubs, but achieved his greatest success in the ranks of FK Jelgava, winning the Latvian Cup three times. Freimanis also played in Ireland and Germany. After the end of his playing career, Freimanis started coaching at JFC Dobele.

Cute. Just for the record Freimanis was diagnosed with skin cancer in October 2021. :RIP:
