On December 13, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in the United States, during the second day of final examination week for the fall semester. Two students were killed and nine other people were wounded during the attack at a final exam review session.
The victims, both Brown students, were identified as Ella Cook, a parishioner at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a recent graduate from Midlothian High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia.

Benjamin Erickson, a 24-year-old man from West Bend, Wisconsin, was detained as a person of interest. His Linkedin profile claims he is a US Army cyber warfare officer and that he graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in May this year before beginning his professional career. He was released after law enforcement authorities determined there was no basis to keep the individual in custody, officials said Sunday night.
