Two promising Cambridge University students have been found dead on campus in the last week.

The body of law undergraduate Pavel Kantchev, 22, was discovered in his Girton College room on Monday.

Just seven days earlier George Starling, 19, a second year engineering student at Peterhouse College, was found dead in his student apartment.

The university has said it is not linking the sudden deaths and police are not treating the incidents as suspicious.
But students at the historic institution are 'completely shocked' by the double tragedy.

One student at Girton College, who did not want to be named, said: 'It is just so tragic. I knew Pavel reasonably well and this has come as a huge shock to me and his friends.

'No one really knows what happened, we haven't been told how he died. It is a real tragedy.'

Andrew Jefferies, Senior Tutor at Girton College, paid tribute to Mr. Pavel - a keen tennis player and college fundraiser.

He said: 'Pavel was an excellent student with a bright future in front of him. The College extends deepest sympathy to his family and friends.'

Students are set to attend a chapel service held at the College this evening.
