I was going we have no Rila lakes in the UK, but actually they look remarkably like parts of Wales and the Scottish Highlands.
 
One lake is at a lower altitude hidden from view.

Durham Cathedral, England



And this is my local cathedral - Durham. Built between 1093 and 1135 in the Norman or Romanesque style, though the east end (to the left) is an Early Gothic extension, and the larger windows and the upper parts of the towers are later medieval.
Built like a fortress, and with the bishop's castle (behind the camera) and the monastery on the other side it occupies most of a defended promontory above a river gorge.
