50000 rounds per kill is a complete waste of good ammo and brass
Today's Eco friendly soldier does it with one round to kill and another 1-2 to make sure - ie double kill or finish the man with your bayonet if close quarter combat

You are certainly correct about 50,000 rounds being a poor use of resources! I came across that bit of trivia in an article about snipers, who were men after your own heart: one shot, one kill.
 
Alex - for ordinary infantry. 2-3 rounds +/- bayonetting is the way it is done , the sniper is far enough away it doesn't matter if the enemy survives the guest shot / we are not
