Good evening.

Another horrific day for gun violence once again in the US, after an 18-year-old man in Texas opened fire in an elementary school, killing 14 students and one teacher. Here’s a quick summary of what we know so far.

• Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that 14 students and one teacher were killed in the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde
• Abbott said that the gunman was 18-year-old Salvador Ramos - but the name was later clarified as Salvador Ramos
• Ramos was shot and killed during the shooting at Robb Elementary School: he is believed to have been killed by law enforcement officers
• Ramos shot his grandmother before heading to the school, and was in a shootout with border patrol agents before barricading himself inside the school buildings
• He posted photos of his guns on Instagram and, shortly before the shooting, he messaged a stranger hinting that he was planning an attack
• Uvalde Memorial Hospital confirmed that two children were brought in dead on arrival and that they were treating many more
• The district said that the city's civic center will be used as a reunification center and that parents will be able to pick up their children there
• Joe Biden, who is currently flying home from Japan, will address the nation from the Roosevelt Room of the White House at 8:15pm tonight

Yes and this is now the deadliest shooting at a US elementary school since 20 children and six adults died at Sandy Hook school a decade ago.

Salvador Rolando Ramos (May 16, 2004 – May 24, 2022) was born in North Dakota, and was a resident of Uvalde and a student at Uvalde High School. According to classmates and friends of Ramos, he had a stutter and a strong lisp, for which he was often bullied, he frequently got into fistfights with classmates, and had few friends. Ramos was not on track to graduate from high school in 2022, as he was frequently absent from school. He worked at a Wendy's for a year but quit a month prior to the shooting. According to the night manager, Ramos went out of the way to keep by himself.

A year before the shooting, Ramos started posting pictures to his Instagram account of automatic rifles that were on his wish list. On May 16, 2022, his 18th birthday, he legally purchased two semi-automatic rifles from the online retailer Daniel Defense through a local gun store of which he posted a picture on his Instagram account three days before the shooting.
