I suspect that Dexter might have been a prostitute and a drug addict. That would explain why he is hanging with a homely weatherman in a hot tub. It would also explain why he died. He was snorting coke or crack which increased his heart rate and caused him to overheat rapidly. He probably died from a stroke.
