Indonesian officials have searched through thick ash for bodies after Mount Sinabung volcano erupted and have so far uncovered 16 corpses buried in ash.

Scorching clouds engulfed victims during the eruption on Saturday, leaving rescuers with little hope of finding survivors as they searched through ash up to 30 centimetres thick.

About 170 people, including from the military and police, armed with chainsaws and oxygen apparatus spread out through apocalyptic-like destruction in Sukameriah v
illage.

Yeah looks like they suffocated from the ash and got poisoned by the noxious gases...really horrible way to go.

My thoughts exactly when I saw that pic the first time due to the blood.
Very nasty well to go!!!

There was a good amount of survivals of the 1902 Mt Pele eruption, however they succumbed to the internal injuries of the heat/pyrocrastic flows...suffering for over 30mins....in some cases.
