Long Topic 29th annual Harbin International Ice and Snow festival

Tourists flock on and around the ice palaces as darkness falls in preparations for the opening ceremony

Dashing through the snow: Spread out across three zones, the theme park features a range of snow-based rides, ice mountains and reproductions of some of the most iconic buildings in the world

The very first festival is thought to have been held in 1963 in Harbin celebrating the local tradition of turning ice into lanterns

Spectators cheer as fireworks are set off to celebrate the opening of the 29th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival earlier today

Long Topic Enormous wall of dust hits part of Australia

An enormous wall of dust has hit part of Australia as residents brace themselves for a tropical cyclone.
The stunning images of the wild dust storm were captured by tugboat works and aeroplane passengers near the town of Onslow in north-western Australia.
Local reports say the huge swathes of red sand and dust had been picked up by strong winds in the Indian Ocean before being dropped near the town.
