Smoke from largest wildfire ever recorded in British Columbia's history reached Europe today and affected the weather covering the sky with thick veil all the way to Bulgaria and Greece.

Smoke at high altitude was the cause of spectacular orange sunset over parts of Germany on August 23.

In Canada there are no major communities affected by the blaze but several smaller rural communities in the Cariboo region are under evacuation orders.

Last week the B.C. government extended the state of emergency covering the entire province until Sept. 1.

A wildfire that sparked about 20 kilometres east of Kelowna, B.C., Thursday forcing about 1,000 people from their homes is continuing to burn out of control.
