Armed Suspect fled before police arrived

A masked gunman man has stormed a retirement home for monks in France and killed two people.

The suspect is believed to have broken into the building in Montpellier, France, on Thursday evening, armed with a knife and a sawn-off shotgun.

An elderly female warder was found bound, gagged and stabbed to death outside the property.

A man who was working with her is also believed to have been killed. The suspect is still at large.

My first thought was why do monks need to retire...from what? Then I remembered that many monasteries run businesses where they make and sell things. So, that would qualify as work from which the monks may legitimately retire.
