Clash of Civilizations

Prominent scholars have been warning politicans for years about the dangers of Western-Islamic clash and that eventually it will turn into a clash of civilizations and dominate global politics for decades to come.

One of the reasons why Obama has decided to start bombing the jihadists is that if they manage to unite Iraq and Syria and get enough weapons the Islamic State will try to expand into Turkey and then into Europe.

America should prepare for another 9/11 if the jihadists continue to conquer new territory and grow in numbers.

Islamic and non-Islamic civilizations will eventually clash because differences have been accumulating for centuaries and will not be easily reolved.

I fully agree, MeatPie. Once again, you are most astute and well-read in the current geopolitical events of this conflict weary world.

Those elements who practice radical Islam are in a total assault on the West, on the constructive, peace-filled and uplifting Judaeo-Christian principles that undergird much of Western civilization.

They are in a battle royal, and more so a "holy war" that takes no survivors at all.

These people are totally ruthless and unprincipled in every way and the West is finally beginning to realize this and deal with it in the most recent totally deplorable and morally bankrupt act of aggression upon the very decent and humanitarian journalist James Foley.

This isn't new - they invaded Spain and Austria in the Middle Ages - and Crusaders occupied part of the Levant and Jerusalem - the war is 1000 years old and continuing in another form

I believe a major conflict is unavoidable. The USA will have to go back to war Europe will follow interesting where Russia stands, there has been no word from them on recent executions.

Maybe in the long term, but at the moment it is primarely a sunnite-shiite intra-Islamic battle that rages from Syria to Iraq.

Even the way you described it, Meatpie, it's not a clash of civilizations, but more of a clash of interests of business magnats. People themselves don't view other as mortal enemies unless media teach them otherwise.
