An Air Algerie Flight AH 5017 with 116 people on board has crashed in the Sahara desert shortly after asking permission to change course due to bad weather.

50 French citizens were among the 110 passengers and
six crew on board Flight AH 5017, all presumed dead.

The French military said it had sent two French fighter jets based in
West Africa to try to locate the plane.

This crash is the
third major aviation disaster involving a commercial airliner in a one-week span, following the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 on 17 July 2014 and the crash of TransAsia Airways Flight 222 on 23 July 2014.

Some quick updates

  • Plane debris found in Tilemsi area of Mali.

  • Authorities lost contact 50 minutes after jet took off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The plane tried to avoid a huge mesoscale convective complex visible on satellite right over Mali where plane debris were found.

Regardless of weather this is the third major aviation accident in one week with close to 500 corpses.

I think that was the worst week after the tenerife disaster and 9/11 in plane crash deaths in history

Where are victims' photos? I guess no graphic photos could have been possibly taken because crash site was cordoned off by French troops
