A teenager has been knifed to death during a fight between two gangs of youths after a party descended into violence.
Police launched a murder investigation after 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Monday morning in Ilford, east London, following the fight involving up to 20 youths.
He was airlifted to hospital for emergency surgery, but died at lunchtime yesterday.
The victim, from Croydon, south London, is the ninth teenager to be murdered in London this year, eight of whom have been fatally stabbed.
Police say up to 20 youths were involved in the mass fight that ended in Chibueze being fatally stabbed.
A murder inquiry has been launched and detectives are appealing for witnesses and information.
A record number of 29 teenagers were murdered in London in 2008, topping the previous worst toll of 27 in 2007. However, there was a steep decline to just 15 teenage murders in the capital in 2009. A total of 19 teenagers were unlawfully killed in London last year.
